Xantha
About Xantha

A culture of care, not a culture of custody.

Xantha was built by clinicians and educators who have implemented Safewards on real wards — not a training company that added it to the catalogue. Since 2015 we have worked with more than a dozen Australian health networks and trained over 3,000 staff, and we are now bringing the same method to general hospitals and aged care.

Lisa Spong

Lisa Spong

Director · Safewards lead · PAC-certified trainer

A mental health clinician who has spent the last ten years helping Australian health services reduce conflict and containment. Lisa has supported dozens of services to implement Safewards, contributed to key Safewards publications and co-led communities of practice. She still works the way she teaches: on the floor, with the team, in real situations.

William Coleman

William Coleman

Director · Partnerships and program delivery

Formerly Salesforce and Microsoft, William brings storytelling, technology and engagement to Xantha's programs — including the smart-glasses review and biometric feedback that turn a simulation into specific, personal feedback.

The Xantha Practice Loop

How every program is taught.

In high-pressure moments, people don't rise to theory; they fall back on instinct. So we train instinct. Whichever framework a program teaches — Safewards, Care Under Pressure or Positive Approach to Care® — it runs on the same six-step loop.

  1. 01
    Experience

Step into the patient's perspective — Woop Woop General Hospital, where nothing works the way it should.

  2. 02
    Observe

Watch stressed practice, then a better alternative, played by professional actors.

  3. 03
    Understand

Connect the moment to the intervention or technique it calls for.

  4. 04
    Practice

Run the scene yourself with a simulated patient who responds like a real one.

  5. 05
    Feedback

Three parts — what went well, what was hard, what to try — including how it felt from the patient's side, via the smart glasses.

  6. 06
    Repeat

Run it again. Improvement is observable, not left to confidence or seniority.
